The hall has been buzzing with excitement as we enjoyed a wonderful variety of performances, including singing, dancing, music, and even some amazing gymnastics. It has been such a joy to see so many children sharing their talents with confidence and enthusiasm.

We are incredibly proud of every single child who took the brave step to audition, as well as those who made it through to today’s final. It takes courage to stand up in front of others and perform, and all children should feel very proud of themselves.

We are so lucky to have such a wonderfully talented group of children here at Parkgate Junior School. Well done to everyone who took part—you made it a truly special and memorable event!

Voice in a Million aims to build confidence in young singers while raising awareness for children in the care system needing adoptive families, and we are very proud to have been part of it.

 Find an example of a 3D shape and count the faces, edges and vertices; e.g. a cereal box. Take photos or draw and label your example. How many other shapes can you find and label?

Find an example of a shape that has a right angle. For example, an envelope looks like a rectangle and has 4 right angles. 

Find examples of at least three objects that are different quadrilaterals and explain how they differ from each other. Find examples of shapes with acute, obtuse and reflex angles and label them. Can you find any 2D or 3D shapes in or around your home? 

Create your own poster with photos and drawings to show what you have found.

Bring your work in by Friday 27th February. You also have half-term to work on this project.

It was a tough match, but our team showed great resilience, determination and team work. Our player of the match went to our goalie Grayson for making some great saves and showing awesome perseverance. The final score was 7:0 to Orchard.

We are so lucky to have such an active PTA and this week the money was spent on the Pantomime. It was Peter Pan this year and a lot of fun was had by all! Each year we collect Christmas boxes for clients of Age UK. A few years ago we realised that there were lots of older people who had no one to spend Christmas with and that they didn't get any presents. As a school, the children decided to create boxes to send out with small gifts inside, such as chocolates, hand cream, socks, a puzzle book etc. We have carried on this tradition and each year, the local Age UK comes to distribute the gifts to older people in need. We do not have many boxes this year, and I am asking if you can make up a box over the weekend. We would really appreciate it. They are coming to pick them up on Tuesday. Enjoy your last calm weekend before the holidays.

Many of the snowflakes we see on cards, wrapping paper and seasonal clothing at this time of the year, are in fact snow-fakes. Real snowflakes always have 6-fold symmetry! ‘Snow-fakes’ are those with 8-fold symmetry.
See how many snow-fakes you can find. You could create a poster with pictures of the ones you find.

Task 2
Make snowflakes with 6-fold symmetry
You will need:
Paper (you can use scrap paper to be environmentally friendly!) and scissors; you could also photograph your examples of snowflakes. See the templates attached to help you. This is maths, because you will be using skills such as Geometry and angles; symmetry, rotations and reflections. Bring your work in by the beginning of next term. I can’t wait to see what fakes you find and flakes you make.

This month's challenge is called ‘Figure me out’. Your challenge is to create a poster designed around numbers to describe yourself. Cover each number with a Post-it note containing a number sentence that gives the answer to the number hidden below. The challenge is posted on Google Classroom with a link to a web page with examples to help you. There is also a template should you wish to use it, but feel free to design your own. We did this challenge last September. Your posters will be different as you are a different age, you may have got a pet or a new sibling, etc. Please bring your work in by Monday 30th September.
