Year 5 Fun Run
Fri 24 Nov 2023On Thursday afternoon, Year 5 participated in an inter-school Fun Run, organised by Three Rivers & Watford School Sports Partnership. There were 5 schools taking part in total. During the afternoon, there was a boys and girls elite race of 1500m, and a boys and girls fun run with obstacles, in which everyone took part. We were very impressed with the resilience and determination of all our year 5. We would like to congratulate those children who were awarded a medal; Eliana, Frankie, Emman, Harvey, Billy, Clara, Millie and Sara.
Also, a special thanks to the adults who were able to accompany us, and helped marshal the route!

Year 5 - Yinka Ilori inspired art
Fri 17 Nov 2023Year 5 children have been busy this week, creating some amazing paintings inspired by a famous British artist and designer Yinka Ilori MBE. He is known for his bold use of bright colours and playful designs for furniture and public spaces.
Some of the children took part in a project of painting chairs in bright colours, representing the way they feel based on Yinka's brightly coloured chairs. They've done a wonderful job and had lots of fun this afternoon!

Children in Need
Fri 17 Nov 2023It was lovely to see all the children in their spots. We had a Pudsey competition for 50p, where the children designed a new bandage for Pudsey; the School Council will judge the entries. A winner will be chosen from each year group and they will receive a prize!
There will be a large drawing of Pudsey Bear on the playground. We will invite anyone who brings any spare change to place it around the drawing of Pudsey. Let’s see if we can complete the drawing with our change!
Finally, the School Council will be baking some spotty cookies (with Smarties!) and will be selling these for a small price AFTER SCHOOL. Find us in the hall at the end of the day. Please help us to help Children in Need.

Big Ambition Survey
Fri 17 Nov 2023Please see below an important message form
Dame Rachel De Souza - Children’s Commissioner for England:
It is really important that the pupils at Parkgate Junior School have participated in The Big Ambition survey and had their say.
SURVEY LINK www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/thebigambition
I want to ensure that the voices of all children in the Watford area are fairly represented in the findings so that I can share their views with the most senior members of the country.
I must reiterate that it is vital that all children have their voice heard through this survey because, as Children’s Commissioner for England, I have a statutory duty to protect and promote the views and interests of children. The Big Ambition provides a much-needed opportunity for the children of England to tell political decision makers what is important to them ahead of the General Election. I will be sharing their responses with Government to ensure that children’s voices are heard.
Please share the survey and resources with teachers in your school and encourage them to use it in their lessons. Children can complete the survey in assemblies, form times, PSHE or in other lessons this term. The survey can also be done as homework and parents can assist children who cannot complete the survey themselves (children under 5 and children with Special Educational Needs). This is a great opportunity to teach children about politics and why it is important for them to use their voice. Be sure to check out the lesson plans on my website if you want to teach your pupils more about politics before they fill in the survey!
Please do get in touch if you have any problems. My team is happy to support with the roll out in any way we can.

Odd Socks Day on Monday 13th November
Fri 10 Nov 2023On Monday 13th November, as part of Anti-Bullying Week, we are having an Odd Socks Day. We would like the children to come into school wearing odd socks. They can be as bright and colourful as they like! The aim of Odd Socks Day is to celebrate children’s individuality and allow them to express themselves in a creative, inclusive way. No funny costumes are required, no money is being raised, we will simply be wearing different socks. The theme of Anti-Bullying Week 2023 is ‘Make a noise’.
We can't wait to see some zany sock combinations!
